For edit-a-thons

  • Adapters for VGA and HDMI ports
  • Loaner laptops with wifi access and USB ports

Photography and scanning equipment

  • A camera and lens kit that has good image quality, takes 4k video, is weather resistant, and includes GPS
  • Candidates:
  • Pentax K-3 II with WR lens (Upside: strong weather resistance, GPS built-in, 1080p video at 24fps. Downside: no 4k video, and requires a separate flash)
  • Pentax full-frame with WR lens (unknown specs at the moment)
  • Samsung NX-1 (Upside: high image quality, 4k video, built in flash. Downside: Weather resistance is lower than the Pentax (in particular, lenses don't appear to be weather resistant with the exception of the expensive 16-50mm f/2-2.8 S ED lens), and no GPS option appears to be available because Samsung discontinued its GPS module.)
  • Nikon D750. (Upside: high image quality. Downside: no 4k video, lowest weather resistance of the group, GPS unit is separate, most expensive camera of the group)
  • A book scanner

  • Video editing software for video tutorials
  • Adobe Lightroom or similar photography software

Private virtual workspace

Sorry if this isn't the right place to post. I've been talking to WMF rep about a response to rampant COI and undisclosed paid editing. One alternative that came up is to create a new Wiki under the auspices of WMF for a private collaborative workspace, but if that doesn't work out, I wonder if it's a) technically feasible and b) policy-wise feasible to use this Wiki for such a thing. It would need to have limited access because we're going to be discussing things that could become a "how to guide" for black hats. -- Brianhe (talk) 11:10, 15 September 2015 (PDT)
